What's Your Style?
Prior to making any decision, our Walters & Hogsett Style Advisors will want to take the time to get to know that lucky person who will be receiving this engagement ring. We’ll be talking a lot about your personal style.

Are you contemporary, modern, classic, traditional or do you love a vintage look? Remember, this engagement ring is not only an expression of your love, it should be an expression of who you are. If you’re more traditional and classic, a solitaire on a simple band may be just perfect for you – and never goes out of style. There are endless options. And, you can begin your search right here.

If it seems a little overwhelming, not to worry. That’s why we’re here! We’ll narrow the options for you. The perfect style, the perfect diamond, and yes, the perfect price.

Thinking about Custom Design?
Okay. Maybe, just maybe, you have your own creation in mind. There’s something exciting about creating a one-of-a-kind engagement ring with our CAD design programs or by working with an established designer to alter one of their rings. We will have you meet with our Style Advisors or our skilled artisans from the initial sketch to final concept.

Or, maybe you found the perfect setting, but want to change those diamond side-gems for some blue sapphires. We see those little changes every day. And, it’s those little changes that make that ring uniquely yours.  Learn More!

Rustic Diamonds are in the Spotlight
Rustic diamonds in earthy tones are a trend we love. From an ice gray rose cut pear shape, to a rich mahogany opaque diamond, these are one-of-a kind diamonds that tell a story of natural beauty. We are using them in all sorts of ring styles from bezel set to halo, often with a warm matte metal to highlight these unique gemstones.

The wedding band can highlight various gem shapes and the myriad of colors from orange to grey as another way to show your own natural Colorado style. If you’re looking for a more non-traditional ring style, we recommend you take a closer look to our favorite rustic designer, Samantha Louise.  Learn more!

Color is all the Rage
Some say Princess Diana started the trend back to colored gemstone engagement rings. But, no matter who started it, we can all agree, color is a beautiful alternative to a white diamond engagement ring. A growing number of celebrities and the fashion savvy are opting from gorgeous, canary yellow diamonds to fancy colored diamonds. Rare, beautiful and certainly uncommon. But, the color rage is also achieved by considering precious other gemstones like sapphires, rubies and emeralds. Sapphires come in a magnificent array of colors such as yellow, peach, green, and pink. And rubies will range the spectrum of rich scarlet to pinkish reds.

Other precious gemstones to consider are aquamarines, tanzanite and tourmalines, which tend to be a more affordable option. Want to know more about color? There’s lots to know. Thankfully, you’ve come to Boulder’s color experts!

Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Rings
As you research diamonds, and prepare to make your engagement ring purchase, you may have seen information about lab created diamonds versus naturally formed diamonds. Some people may refer to lab created diamonds as “fake diamonds”, imitations or simulants, but this is incorrect.

Lab-created diamonds share the same or similar chemical and physical properties as a natural diamond produced by the geological processes of Mother Nature. However, because of the contrasting conditions of natural and lab grown formation, lab grown diamonds display several features which allow them to be distinguished from natural diamonds.

If you’ve been thinking in this direction, we have a series of important questions and answers you can find here.

SOLITARE
Simply breathtaking, this trend is very popular for the classic bride-to-be who wants a style that’s pretty and not over the top.

PUT A TWIST ON IT
Love a timeless look with a little extra flair? Settings with twisted accents are unique in a more subtle and understated way.

PAVÉ
Pave rings are a type of ring setting that consists of small diamonds on the band, fastened by droplets of metal. With this setting technique, the diamonds are set as close together as possible on the metal base, creating the illusion that the band is "paved" with stones. This generates a lot of sparkle.

COLORED GEMSTONES
Those looking for a ring with a pop of color will be happy to hear that engagement rings featuring colored gemstones are staying in vogue. From subtle to striking, colored gemstones are sure to be a standout choice to switch up a classic engagement ring.

EAST-WEST SETTINGS
When you still want a classic yet unique look, an east-west setting, where the diamonds are set horizontally, may be just the thing. Emerald and marquise-cut diamonds look especially beautiful when set this way.

THREE STONE
Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement, this trend has seen a resurgence in popularity. Although this is not a new look, choosing three similarly sized diamonds for the setting is the most updated way to wear it.

HALO
Let sparkle take center stage! With a halo diamond ring, a circle of small light-catching stones adds emphasis and sparkle to the ring's main attraction. The halo ring setting always looks impressive, timeless, and on-trend—all at the same time.

SPLIT SHANK
This style, with two bands running parallel to each other and a gemstone separating them, is both dramatic and trendy. Your center diamond will look like it’s suspended while it sparkles.

The Custom Engagement Ring Process
Let’s start out with the fact that it’s easy and we’ll guide you through this journey. Several years ago, we admit, it would be a much bigger and arduous endeavor. Now, thanks to advances in technology, it’s much easier – and you get to play an active role in the creation of your dream engagement ring!

CAD systems (Computer Aided Design) allow you to see your design in a 3D view, rendered as if it were complete. And today, it’s easy to tweak and make changes even at that stage of the game. But, if you want to know specifically what’s involved in creating a custom designed t ring, you can take a look at the process here.

Already interested? Then let’s set an appointment and we can get the process rolling! We promise to make the custom design process fun (and a little informational) for you, while we’ll learn all about you and your spouse-to-be at the same time. We’ll guide you and make recommendations based on what we learn about you so your new ring can fit easily into your budget and your lifestyle.

Custom Design FAQ's

I love the idea of a custom ring, but I’m not sure I can afford it.
A custom designed ring does not necessarily mean it will be more expensive. Nothing can be further from the truth. Rest assured, nobody will try to pressure you or talk you into making one of the most important purchases of your life something you can’t afford. We’ll discuss your vision, and, yes, we’ll discuss your budget. And, we’ll do everything we can to make sure you receive a ring you’ll love at a price you’re comfortable with.

Is custom work refundable?
Unfortunately, no. Custom designed jewelry involves metal, gems and labor furnished for a specific client. Custom jewelry is non-refundable and requires a partial (20% to 50%) deposit before the final work begins. Full payment upon receipt of custom work will happen upon your complete satisfaction.

How do I figure out a ring size?
The average finger size is a 6 for women and size 9 for a man, but to take out the guesswork, we recommend asking a friend or a family member if you can “borrow” a ring without the partner knowing. It’s a good way to keep the engagement a surprise – but you’ll need to make sure the friend or family member also agrees to keep mum on the subject!

One thing to know… if for whatever reason the ring doesn’t fit, Walters & Hogsett Jewelers has an in-store master jeweler who will size it properly within 24 -48 hours with no extra charge!
